You can gain about 25 to 30 pounds during pregnancy not only because of eating for two but also because of the changes in your anatomy. You gain about 8 pounds for baby weight, another two pounds for placenta, two pounds for the extra weight of your breasts, about two pounds for the additional weight due to the enlargement of the uterus and some more weight for protein, amniotic fluid and fats.
After delivering the baby, expect to lose a maximum of 15 pounds. The other weight sticks around for a few more weeks. Your breasts, when lactating will weigh more plus there are some women who can’t get rid of excess fluid weight such as placenta and amniotic fluid. It is important to remember that not all the weight you have gained during pregnancy is because of “eating for two”.

In the food pyramid, it is suggested there to eat more of carbohydrates-laden foods such as bread and pasta. However, white bread and pasta can actually make you gain more weight. Substitute it with whole grain bread and pasta for more fiber intake.
Exercise daily. A minimum of 30 minutes of physical fitness activity is ideal. It does not have to be a complicated routine either. For as long as you are active, you can burn calories and fats. Try taking the stairs instead of the elevator. You can also walk to the convenience store if it is just right around the corner.
